Album Notes & Community Reviews
Partch composed the ritual drama in 1965 and 1966, fusing an Ethiopian folk tale with a Japanese Noh play across two acts. It premiered at UCLA in January 1969 in four sold-out performances and was recorded by producer John McClure with Danlee Mitchell conducting under the composer's supervision, the LP adding Partch's spoken demonstration of his self-built instruments.
