Album Notes & Community Reviews
The Norwegian saxophonist, backed by a stellar band including Bill Frisell and Eberhard Weber, delivers a masterclass in spacious, atmospheric jazz. 'Wayfarer' is defined by Garbarek's piercing, melancholic tone floating above intricate, highly textured rhythmic interplay. The album perfectly encapsulates the pristine, icy aesthetic that made the ECM label famous during the decade.
