Band of Gypsys

Recorded during four legendary shows at the Fillmore East on New Year's Eve 1969, this live album debuted Jimi Hendrix's new, funk-driven power trio featuring Billy Cox and Buddy Miles. Stepping away from the flashy pop-psychedelia of the Experience, Hendrix utilizes a massive battery of effects pedals to create dark, heavily rhythmic, and improvisational anti-war anthems like the ferocious 'Machine Gun'. It remains a crucial transition point cut tragically short by his death.
