The Gigolo

A masterful, swaggering blues session that finds trumpeter Lee Morgan at the peak of his powers. His playing is confident and soulful, full of his signature half-valve effects and funky, blues-drenched phrases. The performance also highlights his potent chemistry with saxophonist Wayne Shorter, whose exploratory, modern solo provides a perfect intellectual counterpoint to Morgan's earthy fire. It's a prime example of mid-60s, post-bop infused hard bop.
