Magma drastically departed from the apocalyptic, aggressive intensity of their classic Zeuhl sound, introducing elements of funk, disco, and highly rhythmic soul jazz. Christian Vander's typically complex, uncommon time signatures are surprisingly softened by highly polished 80s synthesizer production and deeply spiritual, uplifting vocal performances. 'Merci' is an incredibly eclectic, highly polarizing, and deeply passionate anomaly within the legendary progressive band's catalog.
