Pain of Mind

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Neurosis's debut 'Pain of Mind' documents the band's initial incarnation as a hardcore punk act, blending the genre with crossover thrash and crust punk. Featuring the group's only recorded performance with guitarist Chad Salter, the album establishes a foundation of raw, primitive aggression that starkly contrasts with the atmospheric and experimental sound the band would later pioneer. The recording's frantic pace and lyrical explorations of psychological distress are characteristic of the 1980s underground punk and metal scenes from which the band emerged.
