Tranquilizer
by Oneohtrix Point Never
On 'Tranquilizer', Daniel Lopatin builds his eleventh album from a recovered Internet Archive collection of 1990s sample libraries and rompler presets, a conceptual follow-up to the archival process of 2011's 'Replica'. The resulting electronic compositions are kaleidoscopic and restless, creating unsettling yet transportive soundscapes by filtering obsolete, often chintzy, digital textures through modern production. Co-produced with Nathan Salon, the work juxtaposes moments of ambient calm with jarring glitches and abrupt structural shifts, exploring themes of digital ephemerality, memory, and the fragility of archives.
