Album Notes & Community Reviews

Operating just prior to his full immersion in the free jazz movement, the forward-thinking Canadian pianist leads a thoughtful, highly exploratory quartet date. Featuring Dave Pike on vibraphone, the complex interplay hints strongly at the radical harmonic freedoms the leader would soon embrace while remaining somewhat grounded in post-bop structures. It is a fascinating, transitional artifact from a major jazz innovator.
