Album Notes & Community Reviews

Pavement's debut 'Slanted and Enchanted' established a cornerstone of 1990s indie rock with its influential lo-fi production, which deliberately fused dissonant, detuned guitars and agitated noise with infectious pop sensibilities. Recorded in drummer Gary Young's home studio, the album's seemingly nonchalant performance is marked by Stephen Malkmus's languid vocals and stream-of-consciousness lyrics, masking a sophisticated songwriting approach that balances unkempt, distorted textures with vibrant hooks.
