Album Notes & Community Reviews
Recorded in London with the virtuosic tabla accompaniment of Alla Rakha, 'Portrait of Genius' is a masterful demonstration of North Indian classical ragas. Ravi Shankar's sitar improvisations balance intense rhythmic complexity with deep spiritual contemplation. The album was instrumental in introducing the sitar's complex tonal vocabulary to a rapidly expanding Western audience just prior to the psychedelic explosion.
