Album Notes & Community Reviews

Arriving just before the massive late-90s swing revival explosion, the North Carolina ensemble delivered a remarkably authentic, slightly eccentric take on 1930s jazz and calypso. The lively, brass-heavy instrumentation and Jimbo Mathus's theatrical vocal delivery captured a completely unironic, highly energetic nostalgia. The smash hit 'Hell' unexpectedly launched the quirky, vintage-obsessed collective into massive mainstream commercial success.
