Biography
Squirrel Nut Zippers are a Chapel Hill, North Carolina swing-revival band formed in 1993 by Jimbo Mathus and Katharine Whalen. Mixing hot jazz, blues, klezmer and calypso, they broke through with 'Hot' (1996) and its hit 'Hell', then released 'Perennial Favorites', 'Christmas Caravan' and 'Bedlam Ballroom' before splitting in 2000. After a 2007 reunion of the original lineup, Mathus revived the band in 2016 with New Orleans musicians, recording 'Beasts of Burgundy' (2018) and 'Lost Songs of Doc Souchon' (2020).
