Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released at the height of the Seattle alternative boom, the self-proclaimed 'greatest rock and roll band in the world' delivered a blistering debut of unapologetic sleaze. 'The Smoke of Hell' ignores the prevailing gloomy aesthetic of their local contemporaries, focusing instead on high-octane garage punk, motorik rhythms, and tongue-in-cheek bravado. The record firmly established them as the premier party band on the legendary Sub Pop roster.
