Album Notes & Community Reviews
The innovative acoustic bluesman returns to an incredibly stripped-down, traditional roots format on this warm, highly spirited release. The album famously features the Pointer Sisters providing intricate, gospel-tinged vocal harmonies on several tracks, beautifully augmenting Mahal's intricate fingerpicking and National steel guitar work. It is a masterful, deeply joyful celebration of early 20th-century African-American acoustic music.
