'Ricochet' is a hybrid live and studio album that captures the classic Tangerine Dream lineup of Froese, Franke, and Baumann transitioning from pure ambience to a more energetic, rock-inflected sound. The album's two extensive tracks are built upon dense, sequencer-driven foundations augmented by more prominent electric guitar and percussion than on previous releases. Its primary innovation was the use of complex, multi-layered rhythms, a technique that proved highly influential on the band's later work and the subsequent development of electronic music genres such as trance.
