Album Notes & Community Reviews
Continuing their transition from acoustic hard-bop into highly polished, electric groove music, the legendary ensemble delivered a double-album masterclass in sophisticated jazz-funk. Driven by Joe Sample's remarkably fluid electric piano work and Wilton Felder's incredibly deep, syncopated basslines, the lengthy, instrumental tracks emphasize an irrepressible, laid-back rhythmic pocket. The immensely successful record helped define the slick, highly accessible sound of 1970s crossover jazz.
