Recording as a trio in Memphis, The Replacements infused their sloppy, anxious alternative rock with sharp power-pop hooks, horn sections, and noticeable R&B influences. Paul Westerberg鈥檚 songwriting reached a new level of bittersweet, melodic maturity, detailing tales of urban rebellion, heartbreak, and severe alcoholism. 'Pleased to Meet Me' remains a raucous, emotionally charged highlight of 80s college rock.
