Wipe Out

This album is famed for featuring two foundational surf rock originals by The Surfaris: the frenetic, drum-solo-driven instrumental 'Wipe Out' and its vocal A-side, 'Surfer Joe'. The remainder of the record, however, was a source of controversy, as it was comprised of instrumental rock and R&B covers—such as 'Green Onions' and 'Memphis'—performed by session musicians, including members of The Challengers, and assembled by producer Richard Delvy. Subsequent pressings were retitled to reflect that only two selections were by the credited band, cementing the album's peculiar place in surf music history.
