Album Notes & Community Reviews
Consolidating early 1950s sessions, 'Thelonious Monk Quintet' presents the iconic pianist's famously eccentric timing and dissonant harmonic structures to a growing audience. Backed by solid rhythm players and punchy horn arrangements, Monk lays down definitive versions of his challenging originals. The release captures the essential transition of his music from misunderstood avant-garde to acknowledged modern genius.
