Percy Heath

Percy Heath was the elegant, unshakeable, and witty bassist of the legendary *Modern Jazz Quartet* for over 40 years. The middle brother of the famed *Heath Brothers*, he was known for his impeccable time, warm tone, and a sophisticated melodicism that anchored the MJQ's 'Third Stream' sound. A key participant in seminal bebop and hard bop sessions, Heath recorded with icons like *Miles Davis*, *Thelonious Monk*, and *Milt Jackson*. His foundational playing for labels like #Prestige# and #Atlantic# made him one of the most recorded bassists of his era. In 2003, he released his only album as a leader, 'A Love Song'.
