Konoyo
by Tim Hecker
On 'Konoyo', Tim Hecker merges his signature palette of distorted digital textures and dissonant electronics with the ancient, elegant forms of Japanese gagaku court music. Recorded in a Tokyo temple with the gagaku ensemble Tokyo Gakuso, the album juxtaposes the serene and ritualistic tones of traditional instruments like the shō and hichiriki against immense swells of processed noise. The result is a challenging and atmospheric work that explores the profound tension and surprising harmony between contemporary sound processing and millennium-old acoustic traditions.
