Tim Hecker

Tim Hecker

Tim Hecker is a Canadian composer and sound artist who sculpts immersive, physical, and emotionally resonant audio works. [1, 5, 7] Initially recording techno as Jetone, he pivoted to his own name, developing a distinct form of electronic music defined by the dense processing of organic and digital sources. [1, 5] His method involves deconstructing and layering sounds from instruments like pipe organs, pianos, and woodwinds, obscuring their origins through digital manipulation and granular synthesis to create what has been termed "cathedral electronic music". [4, 7, 11] Hecker’s compositions explore the friction between noise, dissonance, and melody, shaping a unique and influential space within the landscape of modern ambient and experimental music.
