Amatssou

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Initially planned for recording in Jack White's studio before visa issues forced them to relocate to the Mauritanian desert, the legendary Tuareg ensemble delivers another masterpiece of Saharan blues. Produced by Daniel Lanois, 'Amatssou' weaves the hypnotic, cyclic guitar riffs of Tishoumaren with unexpected flourishes of American country instrumentation, including pedal steel and banjo. The album is incredibly warm, deeply melodic, and steeped in a political, psychedelic resonance.
