Biography
Tinariwen is a Tuareg music collective from the Sahara, founded in 1979 by Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, Alhassane Ag Touhami and Abdallah Ag Alhousseyni. Its electric guitar style, known as tishoumaren or desert blues, carried songs of exile and Tuareg self-determination first on cassettes and then, from 'The Radio Tisdas Sessions' (2001), to an international audience. 'Tassili' (2011) won the Grammy for Best World Music Album, and the rotating collective released its tenth album, 'Hoggar', in 2026.
