Album Notes & Community Reviews

Serving as the debut installment of their 'Runaljod' trilogy, this project painstakingly reconstructs ancient Norse musical traditions using historical instruments like deer-hide frame drums, bone flutes, and Kraviklyra. Former Gorgoroth drummer Einar Selvik, alongside Gaahl, utilizes outdoor field recordings of fire and water to ground the hypnotic, pagan chanting. The album single-handedly popularized dark Nordic folk and heavily influenced the soundtrack to the television series 'Vikings'.
