Album Notes & Community Reviews

On 'Girl With Basket of Fruit', Xiu Xiu constructs a challenging and ritualistic soundscape defined by its blend of experimental percussion, aggressive electronics, and jarring acoustic instrumentation. The album, co-produced by Angela Seo and Greg Saunier, matches its abrasive industrial-noise arrangements with thematic explorations of ritual, anger, and societal tension. Jamie Stewart's lyrics largely abandon external narratives for internal reactions to texts and images, with the album's title subverting a Caravaggio painting to comment on the perilous state of womanhood.
