Biography
Absu is a Texas black and thrash metal band formed in 1989 in Plano and renamed Absu in 1991. Centred on drummer-vocalist Proscriptor McGovern, the group fused ferocious drumming, intricate riffing and occult lyrics drawn from Sumerian, Mesopotamian and Celtic myth. Albums such as 'The Sun of Tiphareth', 'The Third Storm of Cythraul' and 'Tara' made the band a cult name in American black metal. Absu returned after hiatus with 'Absu' and 'Abzu', dissolved in 2020, and was reformed by Proscriptor in 2024.
