Biography
San Francisco band American Music Club (1983–1995, 2003–2010), led by singer-songwriter Mark Eitzel, made harrowing, literate indie rock on 'California' (1988), 'Everclear' (1991) and 'Mercury' (1993). Their bleak, slow-burning songs became a touchstone for slowcore and alt-country, and Eitzel is regularly cited among the finest American songwriters of his era. The band's critical reputation has only grown in the decades since their split.
