Biography

Annie Ross (1930-2020) was a British-born jazz vocalist famed for vocalese: her 1952 recording 'Twisted' set lyrics to a *Wardell Gray* solo, and with *Lambert, Hendricks & Ross* she defined the art. She later acted, ran a London club and sang into her eighties. Her London nightclub, Annie's Room, was a Covent Garden fixture, and she appeared in films including 'Superman III' and 'Short Cuts'.
