Biography

Arlo Guthrie is an American folk singer-songwriter who carried on the musical and activist legacy of his father, the iconic *Woody Guthrie*. He became a counter-culture figure with his 1967 debut album, 'Alice's Restaurant', which featured the 18-minute satirical talking blues monologue, 'Alice's Restaurant Massacree'. The song, based on a true story of his arrest for littering, became a Thanksgiving Day radio tradition and an anti-war anthem. Guthrie's work blends storytelling, social commentary, and humor. His only Top 40 hit was a definitive cover of *Steve Goodman*'s 'City of New Orleans'. He has performed at major events like Woodstock and collaborated extensively with his father's contemporary, *Pete Seeger*.
