Bennie Maupin

A multi-reedist best known for his atmospheric and mysterious bass clarinet work on Miles Davis's 'Bitches Brew' and as a founding member of Herbie Hancock's Headhunters. Maupin's sound is more focused on texture and color than bebop pyrotechnics. His contributions to the seminal albums of the fusion era were crucial in defining the genre's sound. His own album, 'The Jewel in the Lotus,' is a masterpiece of introspective, spiritual jazz.
