Biography
A guitarist of ferocious speed and spiritual intensity, John McLaughlin was a primary architect of jazz-rock fusion. After moving to the US in 1969, he made groundbreaking contributions to *Miles Davis*'s seminal albums 'In a Silent Way' and 'Bitches Brew'. He then formed the Mahavishnu Orchestra, a band that fused the volume of rock with the harmonic complexity of jazz and Indian classical music on influential albums like 'The Inner Mounting Flame'. His explorations continued with the acoustic group Shakti, which blended jazz with intricate Indian traditions. Throughout his career, including his celebrated trio work with *Paco de Luc铆a* and *Al Di Meola*, McLaughlin has remained a towering figure of technical virtuosity and genre-defying innovation.
