Booker T. Jones

Booker T. Jones

A principal architect of the Memphis soul sound, Booker T. Jones is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and bandleader whose work fundamentally shaped American rhythm and blues. [4, 7] As the leader of the integrated group Booker T. & the M.G.'s, the Stax Records house band, his lean, pulsating grooves on the Hammond B-3 organ defined a new era of instrumental soul with hits like "Green Onions". [3, 5, 16] After his tenure at Stax, he expanded his influence as a producer for artists like Bill Withers and Willie Nelson, applying his sophisticated yet direct musicality and cementing his legacy as a foundational figure in modern music.
