Biography
Boxhead Ensemble is the revolving instrumental collective led by filmmaker-composer Michael Krassner since 1991. Built from Chicago's post-rock and improvisation circles, with *Fred Lonberg-Holm* a frequent collaborator, the group made a small body of slow, cinematic records — 'The Last Place to Go', 'Two Brothers', 'Quartets' and 'Nocturnes' — blending strings, guitars and electronics into spacious, score-like improvisations. Their records remain touchstones for the intersection of post-rock, improvisation and film music.
