Biography
Carlos Paredes (1925–2004) was a Portuguese guitarist and composer who elevated the guitarra portuguesa into a solo concert instrument. From 'Guitarra Portuguesa' (1967) and 'Movimento Perpétuo' (1971) onward, his virtuoso technique and melancholic compositions made him a national symbol of Portuguese music and one of the most revered instrumentalists of the twentieth century. His recordings remain the benchmark against which all Portuguese guitarists are judged.
