Inspired by his idol *Django Reinhardt* and formally trained by classical master *Andr茅s Segovia*, Byrd developed a uniquely lyrical and sophisticated fingerstyle technique. His career is most famously defined by his essential role in popularizing bossa nova in North America. After a diplomatic tour of Brazil, he collaborated with saxophonist *Stan Getz* on the landmark 1962 album 'Jazz Samba' for #Verve# Records.
