Biography
Al Haig was a pioneering American bebop jazz pianist celebrated for his sophisticated harmonic sense and a light, crystalline touch that set him apart from the more percussive style of his contemporaries. As a first-call sideman in the 1940s and early 1950s, he was integral to the development of modern jazz, contributing to seminal recordings with *Charlie Parker*, *Dizzy Gillespie*, and *Stan Getz*. He was a member of the nonet for *Miles Davis*'s iconic 'Birth of the Cool' session. After a period of relative obscurity, Haig re-emerged in the 1970s, recording prolifically for labels like #Spotlite# and #Interplay# and reaffirming his status as a bebop giant.
