Biography
De Kift is a Dutch fanfare-punk ensemble formed in 1988, closely befriended with *The Ex*. Led by Ferry Heijne, the group sets Dutch texts drawn from everyday life and from writers including Wolfgang Borchert, Jan Arends and Daniil Kharms to brass-heavy arrangements of trumpet, trombone and tuba. From 'Yverzucht' in 1989 through 'Krankenhaus', 'Vlaskoorts', 'Koper' and the opera 'Vier Voor Vier', its theatrical performances and elaborate handmade album packaging made it a Dutch institution. The band won the Zilveren Harp in 2001 and continues with albums including 'Hoogriet' and 'Niemandsland'.
