Formed in Melbourne, Dead Can Dance is the core duo of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard. After relocating to London and signing to #4AD#, they evolved from post-punk origins into a genre-defying entity. Their soundscapes merge neoclassical, medieval, and global folk traditions, defined by the juxtaposition of Perry's baritone and Gerrard's expressive, non-lexical glossolalia. By dissolving boundaries between ambient, art rock, and world music, they crafted a distinct musical language that influenced ethereal wave and dark ambient subgenres.
