Death

Formed in 1984 from the Tampa Bay-area band Mantas, Death was the singular vision of guitarist and vocalist Chuck Schuldiner. [1, 5] The group is considered a foundational force in the death metal genre, with their debut album *Scream Bloody Gore* establishing many of the style's core tenets. [6, 7] Schuldiner, as the sole constant member, guided the bandโs evolution through a famously fluid lineup, progressively incorporating more technical, melodic, and complex song structures on landmark albums like *Human*, *Symbolic*, and *The Sound of Perseverance*. [5, 10] This trajectory from raw aggression to sophisticated progressivism defined the band's legacy and cemented its influence on subsequent generations of metal musicians before ceasing operations with Schuldiner's passing in 2001.
