Formed in Bellingham, Washington, the band cultivated a dedicated following with early albums on #Barsuk Records#, praised for their melancholic melodies and Gibbard's introspective lyrics. Their fourth album, 'Transatlanticism', was a critical and commercial breakthrough, leading to a major label deal with #Atlantic Records#. The subsequent release, 'Plans', achieved platinum status and cemented their mainstream success with hits like 'Soul Meets Body' and 'I Will Follow You into the Dark', making their blend of indie-pop and earnest rock a major influence.
