Biography
Dollar Brand was the early professional name of South African pianist and composer Abdullah Ibrahim (1934-2026), born Adolph Johannes Brand in Cape Town. A co-founder of the Jazz Epistles, he was championed in exile by *Duke Ellington* in 1963 and became the leading figure of Cape jazz.
