Biography
Gary Bartz is a Grammy-winning alto and soprano saxophonist celebrated for his fiery, soulful playing and his pivotal role in bridging post-bop with funk and spiritual jazz. After attending Juilliard, he honed his craft in the 1960s with titans like *Charles Mingus*, *Max Roach*, and *Art Blakey*. In 1970, he joined *Miles Davis*'s electric band, contributing to the seminal album 'Live-Evil'. He is best known for leading his own group, Gary Bartz Ntu Troop, which released a series of landmark albums on the #Milestone# label in the early 1970s, including 'Harlem Bush Music', that fused adventurous improvisation with a powerful, politically conscious, and Afro-centric message.
