GAS

Biography

GAS is the ambient project of Cologne producer Wolfgang Voigt, co-founder of the #Kompakt# label. Built from looped, heavily processed orchestral samples over a muffled four-to-the-floor pulse, the project began with 'Zauberberg' (1997), 'Königsforst' (1998) and 'Pop' (2000) on #Mille Plateaux#. After a seventeen-year silence, Voigt revived GAS with 'Narkopop' (2017) and 'Rausch' (2018). The project is named for the German word for gas and draws its imagery from the Königsforst, the forest outside Cologne whose trees fill its artwork and whose stillness shapes its sound.
