Biography
Goblin are an Italian progressive rock band formed in Rome in 1972, first working as Oliver and then as *Cherry Five* before taking the Goblin name for the film score to Dario Argento's Profondo Rosso in 1975. That score, built on Claudio Simonetti's keyboards, Massimo Morante's guitar, Fabio Pignatelli's bass and Agostino Marangolo's drums, sold over a million copies in Italy and made the band the defining sound of Italian horror cinema. With keyboardist Maurizio Guarini added, Goblin followed it with the stand alone album 'Roller' (1976) and the scores for Suspiria and the European version of Dawn of the Dead. The band fragmented after 1978 into rival incarnations, all keeping the catalogue alive, and Morante's death in 2022 closed the original chapter.
