Biography
Half Japanese is an American art punk band formed by brothers Jad and David Fair in Uniontown, Maryland, in 1974. Built on untuned guitar and songs that are, by Jad Fair's account, either love songs or monster songs, the band helped define lo-fi and DIY recording with the triple album '1/2 Gentlemen/Not Beasts' (1980) on its own #50 Skidillion Watts# label. David Fair left in the early 1980s, and Jad has led shifting lineups ever since, returning after a long recording pause with 'Overjoyed' (2014) for #Joyful Noise Recordings# and continuing through 'Adventure' (2025).
