Biography
The Herbie Nichols Trio is the name given to the piano trio recordings of Herbie Nichols, the New York pianist and composer whose work as a leader was confined to four albums in the 1950s. Released on #Blue Note# and #Bethlehem#, they pair Nichols with bassists Al McKibbon and *Teddy Kotick* and drummers Art Blakey, *Max Roach* and *Dannie Richmond*. Their angular melodies, Caribbean rhythms and classical harmonies, heard on 'The Prophetic Herbie Nichols', 'Herbie Nichols Trio' and 'Love, Gloom, Cash, Love', were neglected in Nichols' lifetime and are now considered essential modern jazz.
