Biography
Chilean nueva canción ensemble formed in Santiago in 1967 by university students including Jorge Coulón, Horacio Durán and Max Berrú, with Horacio Salinas as musical director. Exiled in Italy from 1973 to 1988 after the military coup, Inti-Illimani became international ambassadors for Andean folk music and Chilean resistance. A disputed split in 2001 produced two ensembles, *Inti-Illimani Histórico* and the continuing Inti-Illimani Nuevo led by the Coulón brothers.
