Biography
Jackie Gleason (1916 to 1987) was a Brooklyn-born American comedian and actor, television's Ralph Kramden in The Honeymooners, who also fronted one of the best-selling album series of the 1950s. His #Capitol Records# mood music LPs, starting with 'Music for Lovers Only' (1953) and running through titles such as 'Music to Make You Misty' and 'Velvet Brass', wrapped standards in plush orchestral arrangements realised by collaborators such as *Bobby Hackett*, since Gleason himself could not read music. The albums were aimed squarely at romance and sold in the millions.
