Biography
Jackie Mittoo was a Jamaican keyboardist and arranger who, as musical director of #Studio One#, helped invent ska, rocksteady and reggae. A founding member of The Skatalites, he went on to lead the label's house bands The Soul Brothers, The Soul Vendors and Sound Dimension, writing and arranging hundreds of sessions behind singers such as *Ken Boothe*, *Alton Ellis* and *The Heptones*. Albums such as 'Macka Fat' made his organ and piano playing famous in its own right. After emigrating to Toronto, he pioneered reggae recording in Canada before his early death in 1990.
